The Word Is Near to You
Sister KC Young, OP
KC Young is a Sinsinawa Dominican Sister who lives in Spokane, Washington. She proclaims the Word in her chaplaincy ministry at Holy Family Hospital as well as in her reflections at St. Ann Parish.
“The Word is near to you. . . .” It is so essential to deepen this reality in our lives. Preaching is a way to help us all hear God’s Word, the utterance of God within and without. When I preach, that is the mandate I have . . . to find and name the many ways this nearness is all around us.
There is something in the Word proclaimed and spoken out of this experience which brings a new incarnation of the Holy One. This preaching happens in the cadence of our words, the phrasing, the pauses, the use of verse and song in our body movements. It happens whenever we proclaim the Good News of Love and Truth and Justice.
