Sister Karinne O’Malley
At the Little School (La Escuelita) in Bonita Springs, Florida, Sister Karinne O’Malley is the director of a tutoring program for migrant children, grades K-5. “Education is the key to the future for these migrant children, who are working very hard to mainstream in the public school,” said Sr. Karinne. “They must overcome many obstacles if they are to succeed in life.”
Sister Penny Smith
Sister Penny Smith is the associate director of religious education in the Archdiocese of Mobile, Alabama. “My job is to provide training for people, especially the laity, to do God’s work,” said Sister Penny. She travels about 15,000 miles per year to meet with people in different parishes. She provides training for parish catechists, works with parish education committees, and works with team leaders for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program.
Sister Rosetta Marie Brown
Sister Rosetta is an educational specialist at Covenant House in New York. When teaching, Sister Rosetta is directed by three important beliefs: If all work is God’s work, then all work will work for the good of God’s people; If you can read, you can be and do anything; and a formal education is a necessary and important instrument to achieve and be successful in one’s lifetime. “We see lives changed right before our eyes,” said Sister Rosetta. “One moment nothing is going right, and two months further down the road, dreams have taken root and plans for college, careers, and family changes are steadfastly developing. We have been instrumental in assisting at least 200 youths in achieving their goals in the education arena and advancing towards higher ground.”
