Our Motherhouse

Sinsinawa Mound, our Motherhouse, located in southwest Wisconsin, is home to more than 600 Dominican Sisters and the center for our congregation offices. It is the base from which we have ministered for more than 145 years.

Sinsinawa Dominicans profess vows here at the Mound—and then go forth to spread the message of Jesus Christ. Our Sisters return home occasionally for reflection, renewal, and reconnection. About 200 Dominican Sisters currently live at the Mound. Many of these are retired, while others work in the Mound community and in various congregation offices.

Our Motherhouse also houses conferences and retreats at Sinsinawa Mound Center. Annually, over 32,000 guests come to Sinsinawa. They appreciate the beauty of the peaceful, rural setting. Feel free to visit our home, the place where the spirit dwells. While here, you can travel in the footsteps of our founder in the Mazzuchelli exhibit, tour the Academy Apartments, and visit our Bookshop to buy gifts and our homemade baked goods. We look forward to meeting you.
