Sinsinawa Kitchens

Sinsinawa Kitchens, home to the Sinsinawa Dominicans' famous cinnamon bread and caramel rolls, is bustling with activity from early morning to late evening.

The kitchen is best known for its bakery. Every day, hundreds of loaves of cinnamon bread, caramel rolls, dinner rolls, zucchini bread, white, wheat, raisin, and health breads are baked. Most of the bread is sold to customers visiting Sinsinawa Mound or shipped nationwide from our web site. Pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, bars, fruit cake, and Irish soda bread are also bakery favorites. The bakery continues to grow in popularity. Shop for bread online and try some for yourself today!

The kitchen comes to life daily at 6 a.m. when the first batch of coffee is brewed and closes at 10 p.m. when the last dish is cleaned. Between those times, food is prepared and served for 230 to 700 people for each meal! The guests at Sinsinawa Mound are treated to meals during their stay. Guests come for meetings, programs, retreats, and to visit the Sisters, and they always leave satisfied with the home-style cooking at the Mound. Some of our guests' favorite meals include roast pork and dressing with mashed potatoes, baked chicken, roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, and French toast made from our homemade cinnamon bread.

The kitchen crew consists of many people who assist with food preparation. A group of Sisters works daily peeling potatoes, apples, and carrots. Also, volunteers help in the kitchen by cleaning and cutting fresh produce from our gardens. Rhubarb, beets, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, apples, grapes, peppers, and sweet corn are all part of the annual harvest.
