What Is the Process to Become a Sister?
At your invitation, the Sinsinawa Dominican Vocation Director will join you on your journey. Together, you will discuss and discover the many calls and responses that have directed your path over the years. This conversation is called discerning. Through prayer, openness to self, and soul searching, your Vocation Director and possibly a Spiritual Director will help bring clarity to your desires, motivations, and a path to pursue as you continue life’s journey. The timeline depends on your readiness and openness to discern.

Candidacy—An Introductory Phase
When you and your Vocation Director mutually discern that, indeed, God is calling you to vowed religious life, then you will become a candidate, and the Director of Initial Membership will become your companion on the journey. The two of you will explore your call to Dominican life and the Sinsinawa Dominicans. The timeline for candidacy is between six months and two years.

Novitiate—A Time of Deep Prayer and Discernment
The novitiate period follows the candidacy period. The Director of Initial Membership will continue to journey with the new novice. This path of the journey includes study of Sinsinawa Dominican documents and history, formal Scripture study, formal introduction to the Dominican family, and ongoing discernment. The novitiate timeline is two years.
