Meet Our Associates

Alice Eaton and the Emergence of Dominican Identity

by Associate Annette J. Clemens

Associate Juliana and Laurie Bartoletti Upon reflection, we can sometimes appreciate how a person or group of people can impact our lives in ways we could never anticipate. Such was the experience of Associate Alice Eaton. Alice’s first encounter with the Sinsinawa Dominicans was when she was in grammar school, but she really didn’t connect with the Sisters again until her mid-20s when Theresa Ann Palmisano, OP, invited her to attend some Cursillo programs. That invitation eventually led to Alice and Theresa becoming good friends and also to Alice leading her own Cursillo weekend roughly six years ago.

Alice has a very active ministry, both with the Dominicans and at her home parish. She is a member of the Circle of Preachers group and she enjoys mailing birthday greetings to other Associates who are April “birthday babies.” She also attends Dominican prayer meetings with Ellie Hoffmann, OP, and volunteers at our Annual Gatherings. At Alice’s parish of St. Thomas the Apostle, she serves as both a member of the choir and a Eucharistic minister.

What Alice appreciates about being an Associate is that it challenges her to live Gospel values and Dominican spirituality daily (no small task, indeed). I’m sure we all appreciate knowing that Alice walks with us on this journey of faith and is a good example to us of how our Dominican identity can emerge over time.
