Candy Krepel:
A Vocation to Social Justice
by Associate Annette J. Clemens
Discerning a vocation to social justice is what led Candy Krepel to the Sinsinawa Dominicans. After having been active protesting the Vietnam War as a young adult, Candy’s vocation of helping to build a more holy and just society was reawakened during the build up to the Iraq War. It was then that she realized she would like to accomplish her peace and justice work within the framework of a religious congregation. Thus, her Associate days began after having crossed paths with the Dominicans of Sinsinawa.
Candy’s membership in the Faith and Resistance Working Circle and the Antiracism Transformational Team is where she pours out her energy and passion for social justice. In addition to these activities, she and her spouse have consciously lowered their carbon footprint by installing solar panels on their home. So Candy’s consciousness has spread to both the Earth and its people.
In her free time, Candy plays guitar in her church choir where her spouse serves as a cantor. Together they have three adult children who live in various places throughout the country. She also likes serving on a variety of church committees and volunteers for other things as her schedule permits.
We, as Dominican Associates, are grateful for Candy’s ministry. She is a wonderful role model of someone deeply engaged in social justice, which speaks through her life. Thank you Candy for reminding us of our moral responsibility to God’s creation.
