Meet Our Associates

Paula McKenzie’s Dominican Foundation

by Associate Annette J. Clemens

Associate Paula McKenzie Even though Paula McKenzie’s first connection to the Sinsinawa Dominicans came through her work in parish activities and with Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School in Madison, Wisconsin, a deeper connection began when she was pursuing a master’s degree in religious studies from Edgewood College. Attending classes there afforded Paula the opportunity to engage with the Sisters in study and prayer. Over time, she cultivated solid relationships with them, and she was encouraged by their example. Paula officially became a Sinsinawa Dominican Associate in 1991.

This foundation in the Dominican mission has continued to this day through Paula’s prayer group. Once every week, Paula gathers with two Sisters to pray before going to work as the director of pastoral care at St. Mary’s Hospital. She also meets regularly with a group of three Associates and three Sisters which helps her in her day-to-day life. Paula states, “I would not be able to do that work (at St. Mary’s Hospital) without the connections and support I feel from the Sisters.” The desire for the Dominican mission has also extended to Paula’s son-in-law and two daughters who were Sinsinawa Dominican Apostolic Volunteers. Through Paula’s example, we can all appreciate the importance of connectedness to the Dominican family and hopefully see the fruits of these relationships in our lives.
