The Importance of Relationship
Associate Beth Winkel
by Associates Beth Winkel and Annette J. Clemens
Having been an Associate since 1986, Beth Winkel had this to say about her involvement with the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
“I have been associated with the Dominicans of Sinsinawa since my grade school days at St. Patrick in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While I went to a public high school, I stayed connected with the Sisters through my involvement at the parish, teaching religious education (then called “CCD”).After working for some years, I became an Apostolic Volunteer (AV) and served at St. Thomas Aquinas in Kenosha, Wisconsin. During that year of service, I was a "jack of all trades," teaching physical education to the primary grades, assisting in the lunch room, tutoring for reading, and grading papers, among other things. It was a growing year for me in many ways.
“After my year as an AV, I attended Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, where I majored in religious studies and minored in psychology. While at Edgewood, I found myself remaining connected with my seventh-grade teacher from Green Bay, Sister Ruella Bouchonville, OP (Mary des Neiges). She has been a friend of mine and my family since I was 9 years old. That is one of many relationships that I continue to cherish today.”
Sister Elizabeth Fiorite, OP, invited Beth to consider becoming an Associate. Beth’s continued connection with the Dominicans reminds us of the importance relationships often play in becoming an Associate and in our desire to build a more just and humane world.
