2008 Musical Events
Sinsinawa Mound Center
The Sinsinawa Mound Youth Choir meets every Monday evening 6:30–8 p.m. during the school year. Students in grades 3–12 may join. $55 fee, bring a brother or sister free.
The Sinsinawa Mound Civic Chorus meets 7–9 p.m. every Tuesday and is open to tri-state soprano, alto, tenor, and bass singers. Their performance list includes the annual Messiah Concert and Epiphany Prayer Service. $20 fee.
The Sinsinawa Singing Seniors Choir, for people ages 65 and over, meets Wednesday afternoons to sing, learn healthy breathing exercises, light dancing, and body movements. Membership is free.
Sinsinawa Strings
This orchestra group meets regularly for practice and offers public concerts, often in conjunction with special events at the Mound, including their annual July 4 Patriotic Concert. They are the only alternative instrumental organization in this neighborhood open to all instrumentalists who wish to participate in ensemble or full orchestra. There is no fee.
Private Lessons
Piano and voice lessons are open to children and adults. Lessons are $10 per half-hour session.
Annual Music Events
Epiphany Prayer Service
Observe the end of the Christmas season with the Sinsinawa Mound Civic Chorus at the Epiphany Prayer Service at 4 p.m. on Epiphany Sunday in Queen of the Rosary Chapel.
Solemn Lenten Vespers with Choral Meditations
The Sinsinawa Mound Civic Chorus sings meditations for this special prayer service. Choir members from area churches are welcome to participate. Let us know if you are interested. Rehearsals begin in early January. No fee to sing or attend.
17th Annual Youth Music Festival On Monday, April 14, 2008, area youth choirs gather together at 1 p.m. for music clinic, followed by a special concert at 7 p.m. Guest clinician is Pamela Crawford, Maquoketa, Iowa.
Summer Organ Concerts
Series highlights guest musicians from around the country performing on the Casavant pipe organ in Queen of the Rosary Chapel every Wednesday evening in June, July, and August. Over 1,000 people attend these concerts each summer. The free concerts begin at 7 p.m.
Patriotic Concert
Held annually on July 4 at 2 p.m., this free concert features the Sinsinawa Strings Orchestra and Color Guard. The 2008 theme is “Beautiful Wisconsin,” honoring the flag and the people of Wisconsin in the state’s 160th year.
Messiah Concert
The 17th annual event is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at 3 p.m. Presented by the Sinsinawa Mound Civic Chorus, accompanied by orchestra and directed by Dr. Paul Torkelson from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, this is the perfect family tradition to begin the holiday season. $10 adults; $8 students and senior citizens.
Youth Music Camp
17th Annual Music Camp, July 14-18, 2008. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, ending mid-day on Friday with a musical review and delightful performance open to the public. Youth ages 8 through 18 are invited to attend.
Under the direction of Sister Marie Juan Maney, OP; Sister Rosa Rauth, OP; and Sister Carol Artery, OP, the list of fun activities with all kinds of singing includes dancing (square and tap) and other creative experiences.
This year’s camp is free. However, pre-registration is appreciated to ensure materials for everyone.
