Sister Obituaries

Sister Bernadette Smith, OP, died July 14, 2008. Professed in 1949, Sr. Bernadette taught in the following schools: Blessed Sacrament, Madison, WI; St. Patrick, Lemont, IL; and St. Philip Benizi, Chicago. She ministered as the Special Education Director for the Chicago Archdiocesan Office of Education, Chicago; as a receptionist at St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, IA; as the Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph Parish, Roseburg, OR; and as the Director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at St. Therese Parish, Albuquerque, NM. Sr. Bernadette served as a Pastoral Minister at Holy Family Parish, Visalia, CA; St. Dominic Parish, Denver; and St. Joseph Parish, Port Arthur, TX. May she rest in peace. Sister Lenore Joyce, OP, died July 10, 2008. Professed in 1929, Sr. Lenore taught in the following schools: Immaculate Conception, Waukegan, IL; and St. Rose of Lima, Baltimore, MD, where she was also Principal. She taught at Catholic University, Washington, D.C.; Edgewood College, Madison, WI; Villa Schifanoia, Florence, Italy; and Rosary College (now Dominican University), River Forest, IL, where she also worked in the Admission Office. Sr. Lenore served as prioress of the Motherhouse and Regional Supervisor for Education, Sinsinawa, WI. She promoted the use of Guiding Growth in Christian Social Living (aka the "Green Bible"), a curriculum project begun in the 40s by Sister Mary Nona McGreal, OP, and Sister Joan Smith, OP, throughout the United States.
