Giving from Your
Individual Retirement Account
Congress approved a law, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, that makes it possible to make a charitable contribution directly from your Individual Retirement Account 2011 to a qualified charity such as the Sinsinawa Dominicans. Please consult your tax, financial, or law advisor to see how this law can benefit you.
Here are some key points:
- Offer good only through 2011
- Donor must be at least age 70½
- Gifts made through Dec. 31, 2011, will be eligible for 2011 tax benefits
- Gift can be up to $100,000 per taxpayer per year
- Either traditional or Roth IRA qualifies
- Gift must be outright and given directly to a qualifying charity
- Gift counts towards the mandatory withdrawal amount
