Chapter 2011 Agenda Committee Announced
by Ann McCullough, OP
Nominees for the 2011 Chapter Agenda Committee met at the Mound May 22–25, 2009, to discern together with Facilitator Carolyn Farrell, BVM, the six members and two alternates of the agenda committee. Nearly 30 of those nominated were present for the communal discernment process. Nominees had been named by groups of five or more Sisters from throughout the Congregation.
At the conclusion of the discernment process, members of the agenda committee include the following six Sisters (pictured beginning top left): Joan Murray, OP; Pam Mitchell, OP; Mary Therese Johnson, OP; Pat Rogers, OP; Angelo Collins, OP; and Barb Dannhausen, OP; and two alternates, Judy Schaefer, OP; and Jane Boland, OP. Sister Patricia Mulcahey, OP, is an ex officio member of the agenda committee.
Carolyn set the tone for the discernment process with the title for the weekend, “Discernment: Opening the Gate to Community Service.” She spoke of work on the agenda committee as “the undemanded mile, over and above your regular life and work.” The outcome of the weekend was to be “to choose from ourselves an agenda committee whose members bring a variety of skills, incarnate diversity we value, and have articulated potential for working together.”
Nominees were given several opportunities to speak about what they could bring to the committee and whether they continued to be willing to remain in the process. In a process repeated several times, nominees wrote three names on a sheet, and names listed most often, with a total of over half of those present, were considered to be members of the agenda committee.
