On Aug. 21, the closing session of the diocesan process regarding the Beatification of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, took place at Sinsinawa Mound. This ceremony marked the closing of the Madison diocesan process of inquiry into the possible miracle obtained through the intercession of Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP.

Bishop Robert C. Morlino and the diocesan tribunal members examined documents, heard witnesses, and reviewed medical records. This diocesan process is now concluded and all the documentation will be sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Vatican City where further study will be done. After the Congregation for the Causes of Saints completes its study, it will make a recommendation regarding Beatification of the Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, to be sent to the Pope, who will make the final decision on this Cause.

The Cause was first opened in Queen of the Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, in 1964 by Bishop William P. O’Connor. The results of that diocesan process and subsequent study by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints led to Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP, being declared a “Servant of God” in 1993 by Pope John Paul II and honored with the title “Venerable.” We hope and pray that Pope Benedict XVI will one day declare him “Blessed.”
