Sisters Grateful for Support
Sinsinawa Mound is our home. It is the place from which our Sisters go forth to minister; where many of our Sisters come for active ministry and retirement; and a place where people come for renewal of body, mind, and spirit.
Sara Trapkus, General Operations Officer
Sisters at Sinsinawa Mound celebrated the return of the Casavant organ from the Casavant factory in Québec, Canada. The refurbishing of the organ in Queen of the Rosary Chapel began in September 2008 with the organ being dismantled and sent to Canada. It returned in February 2009 and was put back together in time to be played for Easter Mass. Sisters who gathered in the foyer as the organ was returned include (from left) Marie Juan Maney, Mary Ellen Winston (Gertrude), Teresa Auad (Juana Maria), Barbara Hutfless (Richaria), Mary Marie (Pedra), Marie Virginia Walters, Elizabeth Dunn (Mary Denysa), Mary Howard Johnstone, and Jo Ann Timmerman.
After many years of diligent study and the perseverance of many Sisters, the vision of farming Sinsinawa Mound land organically has become a reality. Bernard Runde, our neighbor and an experienced organic farmer, was contracted, and in just three years all of our tillable land will receive organic certification. We are so thrilled to be caring for the Earth in this way!
From left, Srs. Ellen Mary Cull, Mary Marie (Pedra), and Bernita Hessling (Mary Giovanni) learn how to play games on the new Wii electronic entertainment system given by an anonymous donor. Sisters can use the games to keep active through movements that promote range of motion and balance exercises as well as eye-hand coordination. The game uses hand-held remotes that respond to the user’s movements.
Sr. Regine Pawelski, a member of our nursing staff who administers Sisters’ baths, stands with a new therapeutic tub that was purchased and installed with a grant from the Order of Malta. Sr. Regine said, “The Sisters think the new therapeutic tub is wonderful.” The tub promotes circulation and healthy skin, relieves stress, and eases transfers for both the Sister and the nursing staff.
