DRA/Mystique Casino Awards Grant

by Eileen Dushek-Manthe

Sinsinawa Dominicans, Inc., received a 2009 grant of $11,330 from the Dubuque Racing Association (DRA)/Mystique Casino to improve fire safety at Sinsinawa Mound. The grant was used to install a new fire alarm panel in the Academy building and purchase a thermoscan imaging system.

When the Academy building fire alarm system was installed in 1999, it was determined that the Academy attic and the adjoining St. Clara Chapel would remain wired into the Mound’s fire alarm panels and not be included in the Academy building system. The upgrade now has the smoke and heat detectors, the water flow switches, and the tamper switches in these areas all connected to the Academy building fire alarm panel. The alarm will now sound in both the Academy building and the rest of the Mound complex, making it safer for people in these areas.

The thermoscan imaging system allows the user to detect temperature ranges from 40 degrees below zero to 248 degrees above zero. This portable scanner is useful for detecting hot or cold spots when diagnosing problems in the building, including performing electrical, mechanical, high-temperature, and roof inspections.

We are grateful to the DRA/Mystique Casino for their generosity. Please remember our benefactors in prayer.
