Wisconsin Sisters Collaborate on Immigration Ads

The Wisconsin Region 9 National Communicators Network of Women Religious (NCNWR) have been working with the Wisconsin Region 9 Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) to develop an ad campaign that brings awareness to the need for comprehensive immigration reform in the United States. Through these ads (pictured at right), NCNWR and LCWR hope to inform the public about the need for comprehensive and humane reform in immigration legislation; show support from Catholic Sisters for such reform in immigration legislation; and show concretely the impact of the current immigration system on undocumented immigrants and their families.

Print ads were purchased in Catholic and secular newspapers in Wisconsin. In February and March, ads were placed three times in the five diocesan papers of Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, and Superior; and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Press-Gazette, Fond du Lac Reporter, and La Crosse Tribune. A Facebook page titled “Wisconsin Catholic Sisters” was created to track responses to the ads. The Facebook page addresses the need for comprehensive immigration reform in the United States and provides links to web sites with accurate, up-to-date information debunking common myths about undocumented immigrants. Here, people can network with others and get the facts. This will help Sisters build a community of supporters for reform. To view the page and become a fan of this project, go to www.facebook.com/wiscs on the web.
