Welcome to Third Floor East at Sinsinawa!

by Jeri Cashman, OP, and Mary Ann Nelson, OP
All our thanks to the Sisters at Sinsinawa Mound for taking that one step closer to instilling a “culture of vocation” with the creation of an intentional, small community where women can witness the faithful living of vows, the beauty of our community and ministry, the graced life of our interconnectedness . . . those moments when we live it, work it out, and celebrate it!
All of our Sisters and Associates are welcome to invite women you know to be our guests―to spend a short time, a weekend, or some days to pray with us, eat with us, visit with us, discern a possible call to religious life with us―in our home. Our new space to offer this hospitality, now called Third Floor East, will be available starting May 1. We have been challenged to take a new step away from some of our vocational outreach and into where our life began for us . . . and where life could begin anew for these women, potential candidates looking to actualize Catholic identity, looking for an experience of vowed religious life, looking to learn our ways of participating in the building of a holy and just society.
Sandra Schneiders, IHM, has written on several occasions about our prophetic nature. She suggests that at the very heart of ministerial religious life is its participation in the prophetic mission of Jesus. That mission of proclaiming the good news of salvation to the poor is enacted in our interpretation of the Gospel into concrete historical situations of suffering. Religious women care for the body of Christ in this world, caring by preference for those on the margins, caring through the ministry of preaching and teaching in service to all God’s people.
We know this new Third Floor East is an opportunity to invite women to join us in our mission . . . throughout his ministry, Jesus never stopped inviting, and neither have we. Please e-mail us at member@sinsinawa.org if you know someone we should invite, or do the inviting yourself and you come, too!
