Maureen McDonnell, OP, Reg McKillip, OP, and Stella Storch, OP (pictured top right, from left), attended the annual Pax Christi USA National Conference July 17–19 in Chicago titled “Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution: A National Catholic Conference on Peacemaking.” During the conference, those attending also participated in the Immigrants Rights March and Rally which focused on the Broadview Detention Center where thousands of undocumented immigrants are processed and deported. “There is not a sign on the building,” said Stella. “The razor wire gives it away. Also, when the people are taken to O’Hare [Airport], they are put in a bus from which the seats have been removed and are replaced by cages to which the deportees are chained. The plane then drops them off on the U.S. side of the border and [staff] walks them across to Mexico.”
