Come use your creativity and have fun! With Barb’s guidance, each student will design and decorate six fused glass ornaments (or four ornaments and a small 4” tray) — trees / presents / rounds / butterflies or other abstract shapes with the pieces provided. Barb will take your finished designs home with her to fire and fuse the glass pieces in her kiln. They will be available for you to pick up at Sinsinawa within one to two weeks after the class. No experience is necessary for this workshop and all materials will be provided. So bring a friend and make this a fun evening/morning out. These classes fill up fast so please register early.
Saturday, October 13, 10 a.m. to noon.
Class Fee: $65. Registration deadline is October 5.
Barb McKinlay has always been a lover of art glass. She has worked for glass companies such as Kosta Boda, Simon Pearce, and other china and giftware companies like Haviland and Jay Strongwater. A serendipitous opportunity was presented to Barb when she was given the chance to blow glass on her own. Her creative persona was awakened by a desire to make and sell her own designs. It was then that Barb began to follow a new career for herself as an artist. After 25 years of helping to promote the work of others, Barb made a conscious plan to explore a new life as a glass artist and designer. She built a studio in her own home and taught herself how to make art glass, although her designs seemed to have always been with her somewhere, as in her notebooks of drawings, doodles, and concepts. Barb’s designs are now incorporated into contemporary, fun, useful tableware, home décor, glass paintings and mobiles.
