St. Hildegard, the Divine Feminine, and the Greening of God (via Zoom)

November 14, 2020 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$10.00

Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179)–Benedictine abbess, visionary theologian, medical writer, and composer–was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 and declared a Doctor of the Church, a distinction she shares with only three other women. Today St. Hildegard is known especially for her visions and lyrics concerning the feminine Divine and her prescient ecological awareness. After a short introduction, this webinar will focus on her visions of divine Love (Caritas) and Lady Wisdom. It will also explore her urgent prophetic message about cosmology, ecological balance, and the effects of human sinfulness on the environment.

Saturday, November 14, 2-3 p.m. CST. A zoom link will be sent via email on Friday, Nov. 13

$10/person. Registration deadline is Thursday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m.

Presenter: Professor Barbara Newman (Ph.D. Yale) is known for her work on medieval religious culture, comparative literature, and women’s spirituality. Among her several books are three works on Hildegard of Bingen: an edited volume, Voice of the Living Light: Hildegard of Bingen and Her World; an edition and translation of Hildegard’s collected songs, Symphonia Armonie Celestium Revelationum; and Sister of Wisdom: St. Hildegard’s Theology of the Feminine. She teaches at Northwestern University.
