The History of Yoga & Christianity
September 13 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
$10.00
While yoga started out as an obscure practice thousands of years ago in India, it is now a worldwide phenomenon. But how did yoga make its way out of India? Is yoga appropriate for Christians to practice? Did you know that there are numerous forms of “Christian Yoga” which are now taught around the world?
Yoga has a long and complicated relationship with Christianity, which goes all the way back to the time of Christ and the Apostles. Learning about that history is a wonderful way to better appreciate your faith and your yoga practice! Please join local yoga teacher and presenter Jim Earles for a sweeping historical presentation with fun and interesting facts.
The class will be in a discussion-only format, with lots of opportunities for questions and sharing. No physical yoga practice is planned for this class, and you don’t have to be a yoga practitioner to join in. Any questions about the content or format of the class? Contact Jim at yogaspectrum@yahoo.com.
Wednesday, September 13, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Check-in will begin at 5:45 p.m.
$10/person fee. Registration ends on Monday, September 11.
Presenter: Jim Earles is a yoga teacher from Dubuque, IA. Jim has been a certified yoga teacher for 21 years. For the past several years, he has become more and more interested in the history of yoga in the U.S. and the modern world.
