Voices Serving the Holy in All: A Singing Retreat
August 3 7:00 pm - August 4 4:30 pm$50 - $59
This retreat is for people who don’t sing, and for people who love to sing. Together we will sing songs that hold us together with life. Singing together deepens our sense of communion with others and our sacred respect and wonder in the face of all nature. We’ll sing easy-to-learn, playfully challenging songs that speak to critical themes — environmental, social, interpersonal — in a way that brings joy, a sense of success and an expression of shared meaning. Songleader, Liz Rog, teaches songs in the aural tradition, making singing accessible for all. We will relax into the voices we were born to sing with as we share beautiful, fun, simple songs that can reshape the world.
Private Room Fee: $97. Commuter Fee: $59. Registration deadline is July 27, 2018.
Presenter: Liz Rog is a songleader in the global Ubuntu tradition. The Swahili world Unbuntu means “I am because we are.” Unbuntu singing welcomes all voices, using the collective brain in the body to weave songs and community. Liz delights in helping people rediscover their ancestral birthright of group singing. Because we leave behind the auditions, paper, solos, grades and performance of formal singing, what remains is a simple, joyful and holy intertwining of voice with earth and sky. Liz lives in the Driftless Region of northeast Iowa with her family, where she leads weekly community singing for all ages and hosts guests at Fern Hollow Cabin, her ancestral home. She enjoys travelling to other towns in the region to help in the re-seeding of the earth with songs of renewal.
