7 Questions with Sister Mary Ann Carroll, OP
What is your current ministry? I am currently retired, which affords me the opportunity to volunteer at the House of Peace (a Capuchin sponsored ministry), the Marcus Center, and Stair Crest.
What do you love most about being a Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa? I love being a member of a group that is loving, committed, supportive, and fun.
What is the best advice you have received? A friend encouraged me to “be myself.”
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why? My mom has had the most influence on me. I have always wanted to live as she did. She was a happy person. I never remember her being grouchy. She treated everyone with kindness. She had a great smile. She made me laugh. She loved to sing and dance. She always had time for me and was so encouraging. She never said “I love you,” but I know she did because she treated me with tenderness and sweetness.
What is something about you that you are most proud of or that not many would know about you? Most of my clothes come from thrift shops and garage sales.
What has been your most poignant or memorable moment through the years? I visited Marie Monica Kenney, OP, when she was dying of cancer. She invited and encouraged me to return to ministry at St. Mary Parish, Portage, WI, as a member of the pastoral team. That was her position. I accepted the invitation and spent six happy years ministering to the faithful there.
