Seeking justice in DC

Peggy Ryan, OP in front of the White House. On Dec. 3, Peggy Ryan, OP, joined with 80 other religious Sisters and additional justice seekers from across the United States in Washington, DC, to remind President Joseph Biden of his commitment to eliminate the use of public law Title 42. Peggy explained, “This law prevents our sisters and brothers coming to our southern borders from receiving their rights to request asylum. We met in Lafayette Park and processed prayerfully in front of the White House. We addressed President Biden in a press conference and listened to some of our Latin and Haitian brothers and sisters tell their stories.” She continued, “Oppression, violence, danger, and lack of basic needs are the repressive results of this antiquated law employed to keep our borders closed. It occurred to me during the day that as our siblings at the border wait during Advent to receive their basic human rights, we wait by calling out this injustice. We wait and work for peace, for justice, and thus join others in finding Christ’s light for our world.”
