Women of the Land: Rooted in Story

There is something powerful that happens when women gather on the land and share their stories.
Women of the Land is a two-day immersive storytelling retreat rooted in land, faith and community— designed to reconnect you with your voice, your truth, and the wisdom you carry within.
Beginning Friday afternoon, we will create space for connection, courage, and deep listening. Sister Miriam Brown will guide us in framing the weekend and diving into our own stories through breakout reflections, learning the story of the sisters from Sister Pricilla Wood, meditation in St. Clara Chapel led by Sister Liz Sully, and an evening bonfire with community singing led by MaryKay McDermott.
Saturday invites embodied storytelling. The day begins with an optional sunrise hike led by Molly McNicoll or self-guided meditation, followed by personal story-sharing with Dr. Steffanie Kohn, learning the story of the Mound from Sister Quincy Howard, and a hands-on storytelling workshop with Deb Gittler. After lunch, participants will create a meaningful keepsake. We will close in the Chapel, where Leslie Shalabi will help weave together our weekend, followed by reflection, song, and a blessing.
This retreat is for women who care for the land — farmers, gardeners, stewards, and all who feel called to tend the earth — and who long for spiritual grounding, authentic connection, and sacred space to share their story.
Cost: $50 per person or $100 with overnight accommodation
A retreat benevolent fund is available if needed. (Ryan Fund)
Childcare is available during the day.
This retreat is part of a larger series that the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, Fields of Sinsinawa, and the Mound Center are honored to bring to our community. Rooted in the spirit and legacy of Sister Diane Kennedy, these Women of the Land retreats are made possible in part through a generous grant from the Brach Foundation given in her honor.
Stay tuned for the full series details.
