Sinsinawa dominican sisters
Motherhouse
What started in 1847 as four Sisters and their founder, a pioneer priest, Venerable Samuel Mazzuchelli, in the southwest corner of Wisconsin, grew in both members and places of ministry to spread across the nation and reach into other countries in order to preach and teach the Gospel.
Sinsinawa Mound, our Motherhouse, located in southwest Wisconsin, is the center for our congregation offices.
Many Sisters profess vows here and then go forth to spread the message of Jesus Christ. Our Sisters return home occasionally for reflection, renewal, and reconnection. About 20 Dominican Sisters live at the Mound. Many of these Sisters are retired, while others work in the community and in various congregation offices.
Visit us
Our Motherhouse also houses conferences and retreats at Sinsinawa Mound Center. Guests appreciate the beauty of the peaceful, rural setting. We are in the process of relocating our retreat and conference center to the Stone Building (pictured above between the two red brick buildings) and will hold a grand re-opening of our conference center and exhibit space in the summer of 2025. Feel free to visit our home after our renovations are complete. In the meantime, you can tour the Academy Apartments and see what makes this a place where the spirit dwells. We look forward to meeting you.
