Sister Catherine Houtakker, OP

Sister Catherine Houtakker, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maryland, and Florida. Her religious name was Sister Catherine Genoa. Sr. Catherine’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching, religious education, peace and justice, farming, and health services. In Illinois, she taught elementary school and religious education at Immaculate Conception School and Parish, Chicago, 1967-1975, and St. Mary School and Parish, East Dubuque, 1984-1986. In Iowa, Sr. Catherine taught elementary school and religious education at St. Joseph the Worker School and Parish, Dubuque, 1975-1979, and religious education at Sacred Heart Parish, Dubuque, 1997-1999. In Wisconsin, she taught elementary school and religious education at St. Rose School and Parish, Cuba City, 1980-1984. Sr. Catherine ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, in the orchard and gardens, 1986, and as a certified nursing assistant in the Health Center, 1987-2000 and 2001-2007. She is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Her home parish is St. Patrick, Benton, WI. Sr. Catherine is the daughter of the late Elmer and Bernice (Welter) Houtakker.
