Sister Martha Wiegand, OP

Sister Martha Wiegand, OP, has ministered in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. Her religious name was Sister Dominic Savio. Sr. Martha’s ministry has been dedicated to pastoral ministry and leadership. In Wisconsin, she taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, Kenosha, 1954-1959, and Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1959-1971. She was the coordinator of the primary unit at St. Anne School, Wausau, 1971-1974, and was the pastoral associate at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Madison, 1974-1977. Sr. Martha served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation as vicaress provincial of the Northeast Province, 1980-1983, and as the novice director, 1983-1986. In Iowa, she served as prioress of St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, 1977-1980. In Minnesota, Sr. Martha served at Holy Rosary/Santo Rosario Parish, Minneapolis, as pastoral minister, 1987-2000, and at Centro Guadalupano in outreach and the English as a second language program, 1987-2004, and as executive director, 2000-2004. She continued to volunteer and serve people who were survivors of human trafficking and those experiencing homelessness, Sr. Martha is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Her home parish is St. Joseph, Freeport, IL. She is the daughter of the late Aloysius “Ollie” and Faye (Sunderland) Wiegand. Click here to send an honor online.
