The following nine Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa will celebrate their 70th jubilee in June 2024.

Sister Clara Blozis, OP

Sister Clara Blozis, OP

Sister Clara Blozis, OP, has ministered in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa. Her religious name was Sister Mary Ona. Sr. Clara’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching and administration. In Wisconsin, she taught at Edgewood High, Madison, 1954-1956 and 1958-1961, and at St. Clara Academy, Sinsinawa, 1961-1966, where she also served as principal, 1965-1966. She served at Dominican High School, Whitefish Bay, as assistant principal, 1966-1968, and teacher, 1968-1971, and ministered as assistant director of admissions at Edgewood College, Madison, 1983-1984. In Minnesota, Sr. Clara taught at Bethlehem Academy, Faribault, 1956-1958. In Illinois, she ministered as a member of the administrative team and taught religion at Trinity, River Forest, 1971-1973, and served as director of the Guidance Department at St. Thomas the Apostle High School, Chicago, 1974-1980, and at Unity Catholic High School, Chicago, 1980-1983. Sr. Clara then ministered at Boylan Catholic High School, Rockford, as guidance counselor, 1984-2000, and as Guidance Department assistant, 2000-2007. In Iowa, she served as a nursing assistant at St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, 1973-1974. Sr. Clara is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Sister Elizabeth Fiorite, OP

Sister Elizabeth Fiorite, OP

Sister Elizabeth Fiorite, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Florida. Her religious name was Sister Maria Maddalena. Sr. Elizabeth’s ministry has been dedicated to education and ministry to those with visual impairments. In Illinois, she taught at Holy Trinity, Bloomington, 1954-1957; St. Patrick, Bloomington, 1961-1963; and St. Patrick, Rockford, 1971-1972. Sr. Elizabeth ministered as pastoral associate at Visitation Parish, Chicago, 1986-1992, In Wisconsin, she taught at Holy Family, Whitefish Bay, 1957-1961, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Milwaukee, 1972-1974, and ministered as principal at St. Thomas Aquinas, Kenosha, 1974-1983. In Alabama, Sr. Elizabeth taught at Most Pure Heart of Mary, Mobile, 1963-1971. In Florida, she served as a counselor to adults with vision impairments at Independent Living for Adult Blind, Jacksonville, 1994-2013, where she continues to volunteer. She is living in community with her Dominican Sisters. Her home parish is Ascension, Oak Park, IL. Sister Eleanor “Ellie” Hoffmann, OP

Sister Eleanor “Ellie” Hoffmann, OP

Sister Eleanor “Ellie” Hoffmann, OP, has ministered in Illinois and Wisconsin. Her religious name was Sister Francesco. Sr. Ellie’s ministry has been dedicated to pastoral ministry. In Illinois, she taught at St. Bernard, Peoria, 1967-1969; and was principal at St. Clare, Bloomington, 1977-1978. Sr. Ellie served as associate director of the Peoria Diocesan Office of Education, Peoria, 1971-1977, and as pastoral minister at St. Columba Parish, Ottawa, 1978-1983; St. Mark Parish, Peoria, 1985-1988; and St. Anthony Parish, Bartonville, 1992-1999. She served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as vicaress provincial for the Eastern Province while living in Bloomington, 1988-1992. Sr. Ellie is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Her home parish is Holy Trinity, Bloomington, IL. She is the daughter of the late Jum and Frances (Hickey) Hoffmann. Sister Catherine Houtakker, OP

Sister Catherine Houtakker, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maryland, and Florida. Her religious name was Sister Catherine Genoa. Sr. Catherine’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching, religious education, peace and justice, farming, and health services. In Illinois, she taught elementary school and religious education at Immaculate Conception School and Parish, Chicago, 1967-1975, and St. Mary School and Parish, East Dubuque, 1984-1986. In Iowa, Sr. Catherine taught elementary school and religious education at St. Joseph the Worker School and Parish, Dubuque, 1975-1979, and religious education at Sacred Heart Parish, Dubuque, 1997-1999. In Wisconsin, she taught elementary school and religious education at St. Rose School and Parish, Cuba City, 1980-1984. Sr. Catherine ministered at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, in the orchard and gardens, 1986, and as a certified nursing assistant in the Health Center, 1987-2000 and 2001-2007. She is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Her home parish is St. Patrick, Benton, WI. Sr. Catherine is the daughter of the late Elmer and Bernice (Welter) Houtakker. Sister Mary Marie, OP

Sister Mary Marie, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Montana, New York, and Iowa. Her religious name was Sister Pedra. Sr. Mary’s religious life has been dedicated to pastoral ministry and liturgy. In Illinois, she taught at St. Barnabas, Chicago, 1954-1959; St. Sabina, Chicago, 1989-1990; and Our Lady of Grace, Chicago, 1990-1995. In Wisconsin, Sr. Mary taught at Edgewood Campus School, Madison, 1968-1975, and St. John Vianney, Janesville, 1979-1983. She ministered as a family caregiver at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa, 2000-2006, and at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 2007-2011. She served in the Liturgy Office at the Motherhouse, 2011-2023. In Pennsylvania, Sr. Mary served in Lock Haven as a pastoral visitor at Immaculate Conception Parish and St. Agnes Parish (now jointly Holy Spirit Parish) and served on the staff at Lock Haven Catholic School, 1996-2000. She is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. her home parish is St. Mark, Peoria, IL. Sister Marilyn Schlosser, OP

Sister Marilyn Schlosser, OP, has ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. Her religious name was Sister Marie Emilie. Sr. Marilyn’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching and pastoral care as a hospital chaplain. In Wisconsin, she taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, Kenosha, 1955-1956; and St. Mary, Portage, 1985-1991. Sr. Marilyn ministered as the secretary for the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation’s Northwest Province, Sinsinawa, 1981-1984, and served as pastoral minister at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, 1992-1994. In Illinois, she taught at St. Mark, Peoria, 1956-1957;  Visitation, Kewanee, 1957-1963; and Queen of Peace, Burbank, 1963-1968. In Minnesota, Sr. Marilyn taught at Bethlehem Academy, Faribault, 1968-1972; Immaculate Conception, Faribault, 1972-1973; St. Albert the Great, Minneapolis, 1973-1976, where she also served as co-administrator; and Annunciation, Minneapolis, 1976-1981. She served as pastoral minister at Sisters Care, St. Paul, 1991-1992. In Iowa, Sr. Marilyn ministered as chaplain at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, 1995-2004, and continued to minister in Dubuque as needed from 2005 to 2019. She is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Her home parish is Holy Rosary, Minneapolis. Sister Shirley Schreiber, OP, has ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana, and Indiana. Her religious name was Sister John Gorcum. Sr. Shirley’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching. In Wisconsin, Sister Shirley taught at Queen of Peace, Madison, 1970-1971; St. Rose, Cuba City, 1979-1980; and St. Mary, Portage, 1980-1985. She ministered as a family caregiver at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, 2007-2011. In Illinois, Sr. Shirley taught at St. Bernard, Peoria, 1971-1979 and 1992-1999, and at St. Clare (now Holy Trinity), Bloomington, 1985-1989, where she also served as principal. She ministered as the director of religious education at St. Anthony Parish, Bartonville, 1989-1992. Sr. Shirley is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Sister Martha Wiegand, OP

Sister Martha Wiegand, OP, has ministered in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. Her religious name was Sister Dominic Savio. Sr. Martha’s ministry has been dedicated to pastoral ministry and leadership. In Wisconsin, she taught at St. Thomas Aquinas, Kenosha, 1954-1959, and Blessed Sacrament, Madison, 1959-1971. She was the coordinator of the primary unit at St. Anne School, Wausau, 1971-1974, and was the pastoral associate at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Madison, 1974-1977. Sr. Martha served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation as vicaress provincial of the Northeast Province, 1980-1983, and as the novice director, 1983-1986. In Iowa, she served as prioress of St. Dominic Villa, Dubuque, 1977-1980. In Minnesota, Sr. Martha served at Holy Rosary/Santo Rosario Parish, Minneapolis, as pastoral minister, 1987-2000, and at Centro Guadalupano in outreach and the English as a second language program, 1987-2004, and as executive director, 2000-2004. She continued to volunteer and serve people who were survivors of human trafficking and those experiencing homelessness, Sr. Martha is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Muskego, WI. Sister Mary Louise Wieseler, OP, has ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, and California. Her religious name was Sister Bernardin. Sr. Mary Louise’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching. In Wisconsin, she taught at St. Rose, Milwaukee, 1954-1958. In Illinois, Sr. Mary Louise taught at St. Luke River Forest, 1958-1961; St. Mary Evanston, 1961-1968; and St. Vincent Ferrer, River Forest, 1968-1973. In California, she taught at St. Leo, Oakland, 1973-1983; All Saints, Los Angeles, 1983-1984; St. Louis Bertrand, Oakland, 1984-1986; School of the Madeleine, Berkeley, 1986-1991; and Corpus Christi, Piedmont, 1992-2008. Sr. Mary Louise is living in community with her Dominican Sisters in Footville, WI. Her home parish is St. Cecilia Cathedral, Omaha, NE.
